There were a
few quotes that Margo Chase said that stuck in my head. The first one was, “surround
yourself with creative people.” That hit home for me. When I was younger my
roommate was an artist and we were always bouncing ideas off of each other and
creating things at home. We liked each other’s work and at times would try to imitate
the others style. He was very fun and inspiring to be around. Now that I am
older, married and both my husband and I work in the medical field; I don’t
have that same creative energy in my life as I once had. I don’t really have
the space at home to work on projects. That is one reason why I take art
classes so that I have a place and time to get work done. The other quote that
I didn’t get verbatim, Margo talked about striving for perfection knowing that
there is no such thing. I took it to mean that there will always be a learning
process and not to sweat the mishaps. As long as I am creating and achieving
for something better, I’m bound to create something that I am proud of works.
While Margo was
being serious talking about her open concept in the office to make it easier
for her and her team to work together, it was apparent that they must have fun
while working. In the back ground when she wasn’t looking, a group of her staff
laughed as they posted a funny headshot of Margo on a computer screens for the
camera to capture.
I found her challenge
about being cast typed revealing. I can see how that could happen in getting
well known. That never accrued to me. I
found the whole business side of creating a product for the customer fascinating.
It was way more it was almost intimidating for me to think on their level.
